So presumably the ratio of send and return time is determined by our speed relative the universe? like how fast we spin around the galaxy and how fast our galaxy spins around the centre? Or does this simply mean absolute speed doesn't matter, only relative speed... I was always perplexed by people saying that further out galaxies move away from the centre at increasing speeds. I thought surely there comes a point where a galaxy is moving away faster than C... now I'm thinking it doesn't matter...

Wouldn't the night sky look rather different if light indeed traveled at significantly different speeds in various directions? Take for example cosmic microwave background radiation. If light would travel instantly in some direction then if we look at the the opposite direction we would see a large black spot in the overall CMBR there, since the light that was traveling from there has done so long ago. Even if we are not talking about instant speed but somewhat significant speed variation we'll be able to see it through CMBR. As far as I know this is not the case, CMBR is pretty much the same in all directions. Same goes for other distant objects in the universe, for example quasars. We would see much more of those in some portions of the sky compared to the other.

Do you also know that in ancient India around 500 CE, the mathematician/astronomer named Aryabhata calculated the correct value of the Pi to 3 decimal places! Why cant the gear experiment be repeated with a second gear at a given distance, as the gears are accelerated an observer at either end can record the point at which the light can no longer cross the intervening space and still make it through the second gap, if the speed is different in either direction the results will be different.

If there's no experiment you could do to find out the difference between two hypotheses, the two are actually the same, but presented differently. I don't know how to interpret this video in light of that, but maybe there isn't actually a difference between cAB = cBA and instantaneous and c/2.
